Writer Wakes up and Smells the Coffee (Literally): Where I Went Wrong with This Blog

When you start a new venture in life, you are bound to make mistakes. I’ve written before about failure being a part of the process. It can be a vital part. Of course, as long as you learn from it. It’s been a slow process, and I’m still new at it. But I feel like I’ve learned a lot about blogging and getting my message out. I’ve been doing it wrong.

Sharing your personal experiences and feelings about a topic is great. I’ve found it quite cathartic to share my experiences with the handful of people that read my content right now. It’s great to have a forum to share those experiences. The problem is, I’ve been going about it all wrong when it comes to money-making possibilities.

As a capitalist, you would think I would understand the idea of providing either a physical good or a service for monetary compensation. I thought I did that. I was providing people with inspiration through personal experiences. That’s fine, but inspirational blogs such as this rarely get searched unless someone is looking for information about something. It was that realization–over a cup of coffee, as you might guess from the post title–that made me realize where I went wrong. I was so focused on inspiring people, I completely forgot about informing them regarding the condition that puts the undefined in undefined writer. That’s my service. That’s the purpose of this blog. I will still continue to share my experiences with you to inspire. But I am also going to add information to the list of things I provide here.

I can’t help but laugh as I write this. I wrote a post about things I’ve learned during my blogging journey to that point. I even included what I believe I referred to as “capitalism in a nutshell” that mentioned providing a good or service in order to make money. How ironic is it I would write that and still be ignorant of it in my own business model? Sometimes when someone, or in this case something, tells you to wake up and smell the coffee, it’s best to take the advice literally.

It wouldn’t be one of my posts if I didn’t impart some sort of wisdom. I suppose I’ve done that to some extent already. To summarize though, never forget why you started doing something. Don’t get caught up in the pressure of making money, especially if it causes you to lose sight of your own message. Everybody has a story. No matter what anyone tells you, everyone has something to offer the world. This is it for me. I have a unique opportunity to bring awareness to the condition that changed what my life could have been but doesn’t define who I’ve become. To the people that read or have read my posts that may wonder things such as “what is this condition he keeps talking about?”, stay tuned. Your questions will soon be answered. In case you are curious about the coffee that led to the realization that led to me writing this article, you can find it here.

Don’t forget, my friends, everyone has something to offer. If you’re not sure what your something is, there’s no time like the present to find out. Do what I did. Sit down, grab yourself a cup of coffee or whatever your preferred beverage is, and ask yourself “What do I want to say to the world?” or “What can I provide that makes the world a better place?” Once you answer one or both questions, you’ve found your voice. Thank you to all who have stayed with me this far, and may you find comfort and prosperity in your passions.
